Houston Police Chief Jim McNiell, left, and Lt. Melissa Dunn of the Texas County Sheriff's Department carry personal items out of the home.

The Durbin residence at the corner of Oak Street and Phelps Street in Houston burned Thursday.

The blaze began at about 2 p.m. and originated in the upstairs portion of the two-story home.

Firefighters from the City of Houston, Houston Rural and Raymondville fire departments all responded to the incident. A sizable crowd formed in streets and yards surrounding the fire as people watched the responders at work.

Law enforcement officers from the Houston Police Department and the Texas County Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene soon after smoke was reported seen coming from the structure and determined that nobody was inside and in danger. The officers teamed up to carry out several personal belongings before the items were damaged.
