Radio station KZGM, 88.1 FM, the listener-supported community radio station in Cabool, has once again had one of its shows picked up by another station, but this time the show is heading for a bigger market.
“Juke In The Back” with Matt the Catt, which originates from KZ88, has been picked up by WTMD in Baltimore, Md.
Juke is the first KZGM original show to be aired in a top-10 market in the United States.
In other KZ88 news, the station’s annual nonstop Christmas music marathon will begin at 8 p.m. Dec. 23 and runs through midnight Christmas Day.
A live New Year’s Eve request party will start at 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve and run until 1 a.m.
“I think it fully confirms that sleep deprivation is as bad as drinking,” program director Myron Jackson said.
Replacements for two KZGM power supplies that recently failed were scheduled to be in place and testing by Monday of this week. The failed supplies caused the station’s transmitter to reduce power to 42 percent of normal, which may have caused some reception problems in fringe areas.
KZGM winter program guides, printed locally by the Houston Herald, are now available in area businesses. The guide includes some pictures of the station, a program grid and descriptions of programs.
KZ88 will be broadcasting the Homelessness Marathon beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 and running until 8 the next morning. It will originate from KKFI in Kansas City this year. It is not a fundraiser, but intended to raise awareness of homelessness in the U.S.
More than 100 stations will be carrying the program, which will include local segments.
Some listeners near Rolla who sometimes have trouble picking up the 88.1 FM signal at home reported that they found a nearby hill they can drive to and hear their favorite KZ88 programs.
