Neva Maxine Shelton

Neva Maxine (Smith) Shelton, 90, was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Solo, Mo., to Jud Reed and Bertha Marie (West) Smith. She passed away Dec. 13, 2010, at her home in Mansfield, Mo.

Neva was married to Mitchell Shelton and to this union three children were born, Jerry Robert, Sharon Gaye and Donald Reed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mitch; her two sons, Jerry and Don; and a sister, Veda Spurgeon.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Holder and husband, Terry; her grandchildren, Tracy Loge and husband, Gene, Cassidy Modanlou and husband, Kian, Brady Holder and wife, Melissa, Dairen Shelton and wife, Angela, Dustin Shelton and wife, Cheri; great grandchildren, Ryan and Jordyn Loge, Caylie, Courtney, Julia and Ashlynn Shelton and Landon Modanlou; three sisters, Merle Moody, Dorothy Ruth Andry, and Joyce Wallen; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Neva grew up in the Elk Creek area, one of five girls who were noted for their singing and performing ability. She and Mitch lived in the Houston area all their married life where they were well-known in the community. She was saved at an early age and a member of the First Baptist Church in Houston for many years.

Neva was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She was known and will be remembered for her good pies, fried chicken and gravy, and her homemade cinnamon rolls and donuts; and according to the grandchildren, even her malts, coke floats and popcorn were special. She was a hard worker and a gifted seamstress.

She spent 20 years after her children were raised working at H.D. Lee until her retirement. Her love for her grandchildren was reflected in every aspect of her life. The happiest moments of her life were spent with them in the kitchen, garden, on the sewing machine or attending their school and sports activities.

She loved those kids and expressed it in every way. In 2000, she sold the farm and moved to Mansfield, Mo. The last 2 1/2 years of her life were spent at the Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center in Ava, Mo., where she had caretakers there who loved her dearly and provided her every need. They treated her like a queen.

Above all, she loved her family and she will be missed by those who loved her. We know she is rejoicing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior and those precious loved ones waiting on her there.
