Stetson Welch scored a career-best 17 points to lead the Houston seventh grade boys’ basketball team past Licking 35-34 Friday night.
D.J. McNew added six points for the Tigers, who improved to 9-2 entering the holiday break. Whitley Welch had three points for Houston.
The game was close throughout. It was tied 19-all at the half, and the Tigers had a one-point advantage entering the fourth quarter.
Houston previously romped Licking by 17 points when the teams met Dec. 7.
EIGHTH BOYS: Licking defeated the Houston eighth grade boys’ basketball team 49-47 in overtime Friday to snap the Tigers’ six-game winning streak.
Tanner Cantrell led Houston with 12 points. Devin Garrett and McNew scored 11 points apiece. Kolby Walker added nine.
Houston (7-4) led 28-20 at the half before being outscored 9-2 in the third quarter. Licking had a 10-8 overtime advantage.
