The next version of the twice-a-year census of homeless people in Texas County is set for Wednesday, Jan. 26.

The “Point in Time” count is coordinated by the Texas County Food Pantry and covers a 24-hour period beginning at 9 a.m.

The count is done each year in January and again in July.

Several county agencies will be involved, including the Missouri Division of Family Services, the Texas County Health Department and the police department.

Statistics gathered will be forwarded to two Missouri governmental agencies: the Missouri Housing Development Commission and Missouri Association for Social Welfare. Homeless census information is used to determine how much funding should be set aside for homeless prevention assistance.
