Dr. Dan Vandiver says the field has narrowed for a position as Houston High School principal.

A field of 19 candidates to become Houston High School principal has been narrowed to seven.

Dr. Dan Vandiver, superintendent, said a committee of eight teachers and a district secretary reduced the list to eight and will conduct interviews Thursday.. Vandiver said he was impressed by those applying and is optimistic about the hiring and the job done by the committee.

Ben Yocom, high school principal, last year accepted a position beginning in July as superintendent of the Plato School District.

Vandiver said the process will end with three or four candidates who could be interviewed by the school board next week.

The district is on track to make the hiring this month, he said.
