Texas County Memorial Hospital is hosting a ribbon cutting and open house Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the new location of its fitness center.

The ribbon cutting will be held at 1 p.m. with the Houston Chamber of Commerce. TCMH staff will give tours of the new facility, which is located in the basement of the Houston Optimists Community Center, until 2 p.m.

TCMH is leasing space from the Optimists Club to provide more space and amenities for fitness center members. The new location provides men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers and a large room for classes.

The Houston Optimists Community Center is located in the original First Baptist Church of Houston. It later housed the Houston Stained Glass Theatre and the Texas County Health Department.

Monthly membership at the TCMH Fitness Center is $30 for individuals, $40 for couples and $50 for families. Discounts are available for annual payments. Automatic bank withdrawal for monthly membership is also available. There is a sign-up fee of $15 for new members.

Classes are offered weekly and include step aerobics, kickboxing and intense abdominal workouts. The daily fitness classes are free to members and are open to anyone 12 years of age and older.

A special class for area senior citizens is also offered three times a week. There is no charge for the senior class.

All classes at the TCMH Fitness Center are taught by fitness center director Marlon Richison.

The TCMH Fitness Center is open Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 11 a.m. and noon to 7 p.m. It is also open 8 a.m. until noon Saturdays. The fitness center’s phone number is 417-967-1606.
