Bell ringers in Texas County raised $17,927 through this year’s Salvation Army Campaign — surpassing the goal of $15,000.

Red kettles were set up in Licking, Houston, Cabool and outlying areas of Texas County. The Texas County Food Pantry will receive 85 percent of the funds to assist those in need.

Last year, approximately $5,770 was used for rent/utility assistance, $3,730 for lodging/transportation/meals and $4,600 for health/other needs, according to Sister Clare Reinert, executive director of the pantry.
