Two persons were injured early Sunday in a crash north of Summersville.

A Houston man hit a deer and struck another vehicle head-on north of Summersville early Sunday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

A 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Derek W. Wilson,18, struck the animal, lost control, crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2003 Toyota Rav 4 operated by Tina V. Salazar, 49, of Summersville.

Tpr. Dale Pounds said both drivers, who were wearing seat belts, were taken with moderate injuries to Texas County Memorial Hospital following the 1 a.m. accident three miles north of Summersville on Highway 17.

Both vehicles had extensive damage, Pounds said.
