A county program can aid in prescription costs.

A prescription discount card is available to county residents to potentially help them save money.

Any citizen of Texas County is eligible to participate in the National Association of Counties Prescription Drug Discount Program. It is especially helpful to those who are uninsured or underinsured, according to Texas County Clerk Don Troutman.

Troutman hopes to spread the word about what he believes is an underutilized program. Since the cards were released in July 2010, they have saved users an average of $15.89 per prescription.

“I’d encourage anyone who gets many medication to get one and take it to their local pharmacist, who can review it and tell them if it can help them,” Troutman said.

The cards are available at most county offices or online.
