Louis A. Parker, 80, of Grayslake, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, following a massive stroke.

He was born June 18, 1934, in Detroit, Mich. He and Shirley D. McLaughlin were married in 1956.

He was class president at Licking High School, where he graduated in 1948. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Licking. He enjoyed singing, working on church repairs and construction and serving on the administrative board.

He was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington with the Army from 1948-’49 with the military police.

He worked 32 years at the Licking Post Office. The final 14 years he was the postmaster. Before that time, he worked with his father at the family furniture store.

He and his wife moved to Grayslake, Ill., in 2006 to be near their granddaughter. They transferred church memberships to Libertyville United Methodist Church in Libertyville, Ill.

He was an active member with the Texas County Food Pantry.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley of the home; a daughter, Linda Garich of Lake Villa, Ill.; a sister, Betty Dunlap of Licking; and a brother, Donald Parker of Victoria, Texas.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. The body was cremated under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
