Houston freshman Trevor Merckling won two gold medals at a weightlifting competition Jan. 29 in Salem.
Merckling finished first in his class in the bench press and squats. He competed against athletes from Salem, Mountain Grove, Ava, Cabool and Willow Springs.
Assistant football coach Sean Kelly took the Houston athletes to the meet.
