Ray D. Smith, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Houston House.
He was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Texas County, son of Edgar B. and Verdie T. Parmenter Smith. He and Ruby M. McKinney were married April 25, 1950.
He began helping his parents with their milk route at an early age and later purchased the route and continued hauling milk until he retired in 1990.
He became a Christian in his teens and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church until he moved his membership to the Ozark Baptist Church to attend with his wife, Ruby.
He enjoyed his milk cows and later switched to beef cows. He and his wife moved to their farm when they married in 1950 and continued to live there until the present time with the exception of the time he spent in the nursing home from July 2010 until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two nephews; and an infant.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Mae of Solo; a brother, Earl Lee Smith of Houston; three sisters, Edna Roberts of Solo, Dessie Beasley of Houston and Fern Burch of Kansas City; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Services were Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Gibson, the Rev. Kendall Ford and the Rev. John Wisdom officiating. Burial was in Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
