Rhea Fredrick Lybyer

Rhea Fredrick Lybyer, 92, son of Fredrick L. and Macy Belle Lough Lybyer, was born Sept. 7, 1918, at Dykes, Mo. He died at Houston House Nursing Home in Houston, Mo., on Feb. 19, 2011.

Rhea married Marjorie Marr on June 29, 1940, at the home of Rev. J.R. Halbrook. They were married 63 years.

Rhea attended school at Oak Grove, Pleasant Ridge, and graduated in 1938 from Houston High School, where he was valedictorian. He was also a state officer in FFA.

Rhea attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon. He continued to serve at Bucyrus Baptist Church and then at the First Baptist Church in Houston, where he attended until he was no longer able.

Rhea was a lifelong farmer. He also was one of the first carpenters who helped construct Fort Leonard Wood. Rhea retired from Intercounty Electric Coop after working there nineteen years.

Rhea was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a grandchild, Kristine Markunas.

Surviving are his son, Mike Lybyer and wife, Mary Jane, of Huggins; two daughters, Linda Kay Lybyer and Mary Odle and husband, Bob, of Houston; one sister, Dorothy Ragsdale of Houston; three grandchildren, Jennifer Markunas, Charles Markunas and wife, Alison, and Pat Lybyer; and four great-grandchildren, Kodie, Alannah, Ian and Charley Belle.

Services are Thursday, Feb. 24, at First Baptist Church in Houston with Dr. Howell Burkhead officiating. Burial is in the Dykes Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Pat Lybyer, Mark Lybyer, Steve Lybyer, Charles Markunas, Larry Collins and Ted Fronterhouse; Honorary Pallbearers are Dewayne Rees, Julius Fraley and Joe Richardson.
