The City of Houston started the year with a robust sales tax revenue report from the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The total from a one-cent sales tax received in January was $58,948, which is a jump of $7,877 from the same period a year ago. That’s about a 15 percent increase.
Two quarter-cent sales taxes collected by merchants also showed improvement. Each totaled $14,021, which is up about $1,585 from the same period a year ago. An eighth-cent sales generated $7,011, which was an increase of $792.
The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
