Sales tax revenue was down in Houston during the latest monthly distribution.

A positive note for Texas County government as the new year started: Sales tax revenue increased about 11 percent from a year ago, the Missouri Department of Revenue said.

Revenue totaled about $80,600 for each of three half-cent sales tax collected by merchants. That’s up about $8,500 on each of the taxes from the same period a year ago.

The monthly reports are considered a good measure of economic activity in the region.
