Velma Stottlemyre

C. Velma Ragain Stottlemyre, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Kabul Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Upton, daughter of James and Fronie Adams Ragain. She and Glen Otto Stottlemyre were married Oct. 4, 1941.

She grew up in the Upton community, where she taught school at Coffee for several years. She worked at Lee Jeans in Houston for several years. Her retirement years were spent working the farm in Bucyrus with her husband, Glen.

Velma loved to quilt, play games, do jigsaw puzzles and visit with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; two infant children; four brothers, Earl, Ray, Ercil and Reuel “Chubb”; and four sisters, Lula, Eula, Sylvia and Mildred.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita Scripter of Eminence; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday, Feb. 7, at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church with Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in Hickory Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
