Vinson Brown, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011.

He was born Jan. 27, 1923, in Lipan, Texas, son of Hiram and Jannie Brown.

He grew up in central California. He was a paratrooper in World War II and received the Purple Heart after being almost fatally injured.

He and his wife, Wilma, became Christians in the 1960s. He farmed in central California and was also a realtor and retail businessman. In 1979, he and his wife moved to a farm outside Licking, where he raised cattle for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Esther Shamblin; and two brothers, Junior and Glen.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; a sister, Billie Taylor of Hanford, Calif.; three children, Rusty Brown of Ovilla, Texas, Dick Brown of Woodward, Okla., and Darrin Brown of Licking; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Services were Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Church of Christ in Licking with Larry Tubbs officiating. Burial was in Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
