The city council will change its meeting start time following action on Monday.

Houston’s city council approved an increase in pay for the community’s next mayor and purchased new windows for city hall during a meeting Monday.

Council members okayed increasing the mayor’s salary from $400 to $600 after the next city election. Don Tottingham will fill the slot following the retirement of Steve Hutcheson.

In other matters, the council okayed a $17,866 low bid from Arrowstar Glass, West Plains, for tempered safety glass in the council’s chambers, mayor’s office and break room.

The council also:

-Continues to work through issues related to too much water infiltration into its wastewater system. Recent rains helped identify some problem spots. Work will continue to identify areas. It is believed much of the problem may occur on the west side of the community.

-Heard that it is hoped an Ozarks Technical College ballot issue to bring a campus to Texas County will appear on the November ballot. A steering committee for Houston met Tuesday night. Voters in each of the county’s school districts would vote.

-Approved an ordinance that moves the city’s peace disturbance laws in line with state statute.

-Discussed the practice of mailing delinquent utility notices, and whether the monthly cost of about $100 in postage and additional labor is necessary. No decision was reached.
