The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on U.S. Highway 63 north of Houston will play host to a night of mixed martial arts (MMA) fights Saturday, April 23.
The event, put on by Global Elite Fighting, will feature fighters from several states competing in multiple different fighting disciplines.
Global Elite Fighting is a member of the International Sport Kickboxing Association (ISKA) and its events are sanctioned by the sport’s governing body in Missouri.
The rules of MMA (also known as cage fighting and ultimate fighting) allow fighters the use of both striking and wrestling techniques while either standing or on the mat.
Promoter Dave Garrett said the night will feature a family-oriented atmosphere.
“There will be no alcohol,” Garrett said, “and the music played won’t have any cursing in it and the fighters won’t do any cussing.”
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, or $30 for front row seats. Children under five will be admitted free if they can sit on a parent’s lap. Some of the night’s proceeds will benefit the Houston Rural Fire Department.
Another Global Elite fight night set for May 13 in Licking will benefit the Licking Police Department.
