Kyle Poynter homered in his first junior college baseball game Feb. 28 for Mineral Area College.
Poynter, a 2010 Houston High School graduate, had a run-scoring groundout in his first at-bat against Harding JV. In his next trip to the plate, Poynter smashed a solo homer.
Poynter, who is starting in right field, has hits in four of his first 12 at-bats. He has scored twice and knocked in two runs.
Poynter batted clean-up in the Cardinals’ most recent game against No. 24 John A. Logan. Mineral Area has a 2-2 record.
