Wayne Leonard Cameron, 88, of St. Joseph, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at his home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1922, near Licking, son of James “Bob” Robert and Clara J. Smith Cameron. He and Ora Stone were married October 1944.

He served in the Army during WWII and received the combat infantry badge and several campaign stars, medals and ribbons. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6760 in St. Joseph.

He was an agent for Standard Oil thru the 1950s and a highway construction supervisor in the 1960s for Land Construction Company and Herzog Contracting Co. He built highways in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas and Missouri.

He loved piloting his own plane for many years and shared produce from his garden with friends, relatives and neighbors. He and his wife had a retirement home at Toledo Bend Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dennis “Denny” Lynn Cameron; a grandson; and a brother, Lynn Cameron.

Survivors include his wife, Ora of the home; a son, James “Jimmy” Wayne Cameron of West Plains; a daughter, Suzan Marie Barber of St. Joseph; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Services were Sunday, March 27, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Gorman officiating.
