A DFS representative called the Texas County Sheriff’s Department on April 13 to report a hot line call she had received regarding conditions in a home on Mills Road in Cabool.
An officer and the representative went to the home and found methamphetamine, marijuana, several items of drug paraphernalia and an explosive device in locations easily accessible by two infant children living there.
As a result of the investigation, the children’s parents, a 32-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were placed under arrest and taken to the Texas County Jail.
Charges against the man and woman to be forwarded to the Texas County Prosecutor included endangering the welfare of a child, keeping public nuisance, possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The children were removed and placed in protective custody.
The officer stated that both the man and the woman admitted to using drugs in the home while the children are home. The woman also reportedly stated she is pregnant.
The following are other matters dealt with last week by the sheriff’s department, including several reported thefts.
April 12
–A Licking man called to report that his elderly father had left their Cooper Road residence the night before and had not returned. An investigating officer determined the father had gone to Salem and had been admitted to the hospital there.
–A Houston man called to request assistance in putting a horse down because it was sick and suffering. An officer assisted the man.
April 14
–A Mountain Grove woman called to report the theft of several items from her neighbor’s property.
The woman stated she had seen a white truck pull up to the neighbor’s home, load a washer or dryer and a refrigerator and leave. She stated that she had told the neighbor and the neighbor had said nobody had permission to be there.
The neighbor was to be called for further information.
–An officer responded to a Foster Road residence in Houston regarding a burglary.
The officer observed damage to two exterior doors and was told a refrigerator valued at $200 had been stolen. The owner of the rental property reportedly said a man who had recently looked into renting it might have been involved.
–A Cabool woman called to report the theft of several items from her Highway M residence.
She told an investigating officer she suspected a woman from Summit Street in Cabool. An officer made contact with the woman and observed she was wearing a pair of shoes the other woman had reported stolen. The woman was placed under arrest and taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning.
–A Cabool woman called to report a burglary at her Highway 38 residence.
An investigating officer observed a rock lying on the floor that had apparently been thrown through a window.
The woman stated that stolen items included a Sears treadmill valued at $249 and numerous pieces of jewelry. The total value of the stolen goods was reportedly $2,061.99.
April 16
–An officer went to a Morton Road residence regarding a fight possibly taking place there. A man on the scene told the officer that another man had been there and was drunk and had kicked the first man’s wife. The first man stated that the drunk man had then chased him while hitting himself. The drunk man was gone when the officer arrived.
April 17
–A Cabool man called to report a possible trespassing and that a party was going on by the river, possibly on his Highway EE property. An officer went to the Panther Creek bridge and found four people there. The officer reported that no trash had been out and that he advised the people to leave and they did.
–A man called to report a burglary at a Saline Lane residence he was taking care of while the owner is deployed overseas with the military.
An investigating officer spoke with two teenage sons of the homeowner who are in the care of a woman while the homeowner is away. One of the boys stated that the stolen items were all things that belonged to he and his brother. The total value of the items was reportedly $770.
The officer observed drawers and cabinets open and items thrown around the home making the home appear ransacked, even though only the boys’ things were taken.
The officer also observed two Marlboro cigarettes – one in the garage and one in the living room. No resident of the house reportedly smokes. The officer also observed some sort of sandy substance dumped on the garage floor with footprints in it.
–A Mountain View man called to report that scrap metal had been stolen from his Stoddard Lane property. The man stated that neighbors had seen a pickup and trailer there during the night.
The man also said he suspected another man, who he had a dispute with over the property.
