Scholarship opportunities are available through the TCMH Healthcare Foundation.

Texas County Memorial Hospital is seeking additional volunteers to serve at the county hospital as the it begins construction this spring.

“As the hospital grows, we are growing our volunteer base,” said Toni McKinney, registration department director and liaison with the TCMH Auxiliary.

McKinney coordinates the hospital’s Youth Ambassador program and works with the TCMH Auxiliary — two hospital-based volunteer groups.

“We need volunteers that will read to patients, sit and talk with patients or assist patients with activities like personal care or playing a game,” McKinney said. “We also have a need to help patients and their family members as they are discharged from the hospital and professional services, such as assisting with departmental phones and staffing informational desks are also in demand.”

McKinney explained that the TCMH Youth Ambassadors provide a lot of one-on-one patient care in the evenings and after school, but additional assistance is needed with patients and the public during working hours.

“I hope that some able-bodied, retired men and women that have free time during the day will be able to join our volunteer ranks for a few hours each month,” McKinney said.

McKinney has organized an informational meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in the Mayuga Café conference room for anyone interested in joining the roster of volunteers at TCMH.

Department managers that utilize volunteers will be available to meet with those interested in providing volunteering. Other volunteers will also be available to discuss opportunities at TCMH. Applications will be available.
