Military veteran

Russell Martin Schweke, 79, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Nov. 5, 1931, in St. Louis, son of Russell Ernest and Ida Mae Vierketter Schweke. He married Betty Lamar Pitman. Following her death, he married Jeanette Taylor Marshall.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he obtained a degree in business administration from the University of Missouri and became vice president of W.M. Arwood Company.

He owned Sparta Dry Goods, Ava Department Store, Payless Variety in Houston and R&S Floral.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; a daughter, Vicky Young of Springfield; two sons, John Schweke and Randy Schweke of Springfield; two stepchildren, Bill Marshall and Michelle Marshall; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors were Saturday, April 2, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield.
