Authorities are investigating a report of a woman found at homes in separate incidents.

A 38-year-old woman from Shannon County is in custody Monday after separate reports of a woman prowling around separate homes.

Martha L. Brumble, 38, of Eminence, is charged with second-degree burglary and theft of a controlled substance. Her bond is set at $200,000.

A Houston woman reported that a suspicious female had been at her Somerset Lane residence. The woman stated that when she came home from shopping at about 1:30 p.m., she found a white SUV parked in her driveway and observed a white female exit her garage.

When the resident asked the unknown female what she was doing, she reportedly said she was lost and was checking to see if anyone was home.

The resident stated she thought that was odd since the front door would have been a better place to check to find out if someone was home. She said she gave the stranger directions and she quickly left in the white SUV.

The TCSD suspected a former law enforcement officer who owns a white SUV like the one at the scene and who is known to have a problem with prescription drug abuse. The resident identified the vehicle from photo lineups, but was unable to identify the stranger from photos, stating she didn’t get a good enough look at her.

In a similar incident, a Houston man reported having a suspicious white female at his residence the previous day, who was driving a white Dodge Durango. The man stated that he had left his home at about 9:30 a.m. and saw the vehicle in his driveway when he returned at 11:30 a.m.

He said the vehicle was full of personal items and stated that when he opened his front door, he saw a woman exit his home through a back door. When he confronted the woman and asked what she was doing, she reportedly said she was looking for a double-wide trailer that was for rent on the road.

The man said he told her there were no trailers for rent and she quickly left. He identified the woman and the vehicle from photo lineups.
