Lifelong Houston area resident Joe Crum has always been an avid collector of antiques.
One Saturday while he and his wife, Gail, were on an antiquing outing in the Ozarks, Gail had a vision.
“I was inspired by the Lord that ‘I could do this,'” she said. “The ‘this’ was to have an antique store like the ones we were going in and out of.”
Gail shared the vision with Joe, and he quickly warmed up to the idea. While driving home from church the next day, the couple simultaneously noticed a building with a “for sale” sign on it and stopped to get the seller’s phone number.
They met with the owner a week later and closed on the building a few weeks after that.
The result is Hidden Treasures Antiques and Collectibles, three miles north of Houston on U.S. 63. The store features more than 30 booths and shelf units and opened for business March 15.
“We have been blessed by the vendor-merchants who rented booths in our store, and we hope to have lasting relationships as we strive to keep a well organized and appealing store for the consumer,” Gail said.
Booths are rented on a monthly basis and a 10-percent commission is collected on all sales. A couple of booths are still available.
Hidden Treasures advertises regularly in the “Antiquing We Go” publication, which is also online at www.antiquingwego.com.
A grand opening celebration is planned for this Saturday. The event will include 10-percent savings throughout the store, extra savings in select booths, and a yard sale on the front lawn beginning at 8 a.m.
