Gene McGowen

Johnnie Billy Eugene McGowen (Gene), 75, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011.

He was born March 24, 1936, in Kansas City, Kan., oldest son of Clifford and Syrena McGowen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Lonnie and Jerry McGowen of Wasilla, Alaska; daughters, Krystal Rogers of Wasilla, Alaska, and Syrena and husband, Jim Rheault, of Eagle River, Alaska; five grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter who is to be born in July; one brother, Lonnie and wife, Roxie McGowen, of Houston, Mo.; a sister, Sharon and husband, Leon Williams, of Bucyrus, Mo.; and nephews, nieces and tons of friends.

He was raised in the Bucyrus area and as a young man made his way to Alaska, where he owned and operated his own business for nearly 40 years before retiring to sunny Las Vegas, Nev.

He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed going back to Alaska in his motor home to do some fishing every June.

He also truly enjoyed his trips back to Missouri every fall for deer season and just kicking back with the family and friends.

He was cremated and laid to rest at a family cemetery in Bucyrus, Mo.

What a beautiful difference one single life made! He was loved and will be missed by many.
