Senior Erica Keeney and freshman Aaron Cantrell were named the female and male Houston High School players of the year at the annual sports banquet Monday night inside Hiett Gym.

About 250 players and parents attended the event, which is sponsored by the Houston Tiger Booster Club.

Keeney, who received the honor for the third consecutive year, was an all-conference player in both volleyball and basketball.

Cantrell was a starting member of the boys’ basketball and baseball teams despite being a freshman.

Harold Merritt received the Larry Southern Award, which is given annually to someone who supports the HHS athletic programs. Merritt was a longtime member of the Quarterback Club and has worked on many projects for other programs, including recently building new locker rooms for the baseball team.
