Lynn Dorrell, state commander of the American Legion, announced that Leonard Moffett, commander of American Legion Post 41 in Houston, won two of the membership competitions this year.

Moffett won two trips, one to the President Abraham Lincoln Pilgrimage in Springfield, Ill., in February and to the President Harry S Truman Pilgrimage in Independence.

This is the 38th year Missourians and Legionnaires from surrounding states have gathered at the Truman Library to honor the memory of the first Legionnaire to become president of the United States. Both trips included presenting a wreath to honor the former presidents, a tour of the presidential libraries and museums, and luncheons to honor him and others who have excelled in their membership drives this year.

Moffett earned the trips for his work in the Texas County area to increase the number of members in Post 41. His post has added 26 new members this year alone and currently is at 123.28 percent of its membership goal.
