A logging accident claimed the live of a man in the Hartshorn area on Tuesday.

A 20-year-old Summersville man was seriously injured Tuesday morning when attempted to avoid a disabled log truck and another vehicle on Highway K.

Tpr. Marty Wiseman of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the log truck was in the southbound lane when another vehicle attempted to pass it in the path of a northbound 1996 Chevrolet pickup driven by Bradley Shafer. He ran off the right side of the road, came back across the highway and ran off the roadway before striking a tree.

Shafer did not make contact with the other vehicles, Wiseman said. Shafer was flown from the scene to St. John’s in Springfield. Wiseman said the truck was totaled.
