Farrel Arthur Dablemont, 84, died Monday, June 20, 2011, in Bolivar.

He was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Texas County. He married Jessie McNew.

He lived most of his life in the Houston are. He joined the Merchant Marines when he was 17 years old near the end of World War II.

He was a johnboat builder and float-fishing guide in the 1950s and ’60s on the Big Piney and Gasconade rivers. He began working in 1979 for the Houston School District as a bus driver. He retired in 2001.

He served as a deacon at Free Will Baptist Church in Houston for many years and also attended Central Baptist Church, where he taught Bible classes. Since 2001, he attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bolivar. He was an elder-deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie; a son, Larry Dablemont; two daughters, Muriel Wood and Diana Chadwick; a sister, Amanda Owen of Bella Vista, Ark.; three brothers, Norten Dablemont of Pittsburg, Vaughn Dablemont of Rogers, Ark., and Bryce Dablemont of Springdale, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bolivar and 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in Ozark Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Pitts Funeral Home of Bolivar.
