Mark Chapman will perform Friday in Houston.

The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a fireworks show and other activities Friday at its fairgrounds on North U.S. 63.

A carnival midway and FFA petting zoo also are planned. The carnival runs noon to 10 p.m. Friday. The zoo starts at noon Friday.

The Mark Chapman Band will perform at 7 p.m. Friday as part of the festivities. Concert tickets are $10 for general admission and $20 for VIP. Ten percent of the ticket sales go to Convey of Hope’s Joplin relief efforts.

“We’re really looking forward to putting on a great show for the folks in Texas County,” said Chapman. “We’re gonna have lots of fun, patriotism and great music, and help out Joplin at the same time.”

Chapman’s “Where Would You Go (If You Couldn’t Go Home)?” single has brought him nationwide publicity as the song has become an anthem for those affected by the tornado disaster at Joplin. All of the profits from the song go toward helping others affected by the Jasper County twister.

Fireworks start at dark.

Chamber director Sharon Horbyk says armbands are available fromnoon until 6 p.m. at Friday’s carnival.
