A spinoff of a popular national television will have competitors running across the Houston area on Saturday for a chance to win cash.
“Houston’s Amazing Race” is a project of the Houston Optimist Club. Events begin at 8 a.m. at the Lone Star Plaza as teams race to be the first to finish a variety of tasks at local sponsors. Three-member teams will compete for more than $1,000 in prize money. First place wins $600. Second takes $300. Third receives $150.

There will be 15 tasks that will be performed. Teams will battle to decode “clues” in order to find their next destination, get to the next point and complete a task before receiving a clue to move to the next location.
The Amazing Race is a reality television game show in which teams journey around the world in competition with other teams. Contestants strive to arrive first at “pit stops” at the end of each leg of the race to win prizes.
The team entry fee for the local event is $75.
