Voters in the Houston School District will decide Tuesday whether to become a part of the Ozarks Technical Community College District.
Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. at the Houston Storm Shelter.
The Texas County clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday to accommodate voting.
The issue comes after the college expressed an interest in locating a campus in the county. School districts at Summersville, Success and Raymondville will vote in the spring.
If approved, students would also gain an almost 30-percent discount on tuition costs starting with the fall semester at any OTC campus.
The issue calls for a small levy: 15 cents per $100 assessed valuation. That’s about $28.50 annually for someone who owns a $100,000 home. Similar levies support the county library, health department and sheltered workshop.
