The roadway is cleared after an accident near Simmons left debris on U.S. 63.

A Salem woman sustained serious injuries Friday afternoon when her vehicle crossed the centerline south of Simmons and struck a tractor-trailer unit, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Jaclyn B. Rutland, 20, was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital following the accident about eight miles south of Houston. Fire and rescue units responded to the scene after both vehicles ran off the side of the roadway.

The driver of the rig, Merle D. Hardecke, 53, of Strafford, was not injured. His vehicle sustained extensive damage, said Tpr. Myron Downey. Rutland’s 2002 Toyota Celica was totaled, he said.
