Members of the Houston board of education accepted a propane bid and set hearings during a meeting Monday.
Rees Oil Co. Inc. was awarded the fuel bid at $1.799 per gallon.
The board set 6 p.m. Aug. 8 to set the 2011 tax levy and fulfill a requirement to hear comments about starting school more than 10 days before Labor Day.
Members tabled a decision on a new scholarship policy. The board is studying whether to set a minimum amount for scholarship checks it writes, and it also is reviewing whether to funnel future scholarship fund creations to the Houston Education Foundation.
