Sports have returned.
Monday was the first official day high school teams across the state could begin practicing. At Houston High School, that meant the return of football, softball and volleyball.
There were 19 players for coach Skye Carrasquillo’s first day with the Lady Tigers volleyball program. She replaced Amy McNew, who left for the same position at Mountain Grove.
Inclement weather forced the softball team to hold practices indoors Monday afternoon. The team was back outdoors on Tuesday. Third-year coach Willy Walker has 13 players on this year’s team, which did not lose anyone to graduation.
There are 30 players on the football team, which also had to adjust its practice schedule due to heavy rain. Coach David Williams returns for his second year with the Tigers.
There was a sense of urgency for all three teams with games quickly approaching. The softball team opens the season Aug. 22.
