The world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales are scheduled to make several appearances in the West Plains area beginning with their arrival Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The horses will be stabled at the Southern Hills Shopping Center and participating in one local parade as well as be available for viewing based on availability until Sunday.

Area events featuring the Clydesdales include:

–5-6 p.m. Thursday: Great Rivers Distributing hosts a reception for all members of the Greater West Plains Area Chamber of Commerce at Southern Hills Shopping Center.

–6:30 p.m. Thursday: The clydesdales will parade around the Southern Hills area on a 1 ½-mile route.

–5 p.m. Friday: Parade at the Missouri Foxtrotting Horse Breed Association 2011 Show and Celebration at the Ava Fairgrounds.

–6 p.m. Saturday: Blue Jean Ball hosted by the Ozarks Medical Center Foundation at the Risner Stables in West Plains. For ticket information, contact the OMC Foundation 257-5700.

The appearance in West Plains is one of hundreds made annually by the traveling hitches. Canadians of Scottish descent brought the first Clydesdales to America in the mid-1800s. Today, the giant draft horses are used primarily for breeding and show.
