A deputy said he narrowly escaped a collision with a driver, who is charged with DWI.

An officer with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department said his patrol car escaped damage after he pulled over on the grass to escape being struck by a drunk driver.

The deputy reported that at about 2:55 a.m. July 24 he had arrested Joseph J. Posanti, 34, of 10154 Whispering Pines Lane in Licking, for driving while intoxicated.

The officer made the arrest after observing the vehicle Posanti was driving northbound on U.S. 63 closely following his patrol car.

The officer stated in his report that he noticed in his rear view mirror that a car was closing fast and that he took evasive action to avoid being struck by pulling onto the grass shoulder.

When the officer made contact with the driver, he smelled alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests. Posanti was taken to the Texas County Jail.
