Military veteran

Henry Everette McCoy, 93, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2011, at his near Lynchburg following a short illness.

He was born March 29, 1918, in Wright County, son of Joseph and Jane McDonald McCoy. He and Mildred Van De Venter were married Oct. 25, 1947, in Mountain Grove.

He grew up and attended school in the Embree community. Except for one year in the Navy, his entire life was spent within one mile of his birthplace.

He was employed as a civil servant in Fort Leonard Wood and retired from there on July 30, 1982.

He enjoyed traveling, working on his farm, trail riding, playing music with friends and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diana Marie in 1951; and a son, Dennis in 1990.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mildred McCoy of the home; a son, Terry McCoy of Lynchburg; two grandsons; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Services were Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Carter and the Rev. Wade Perryman officiating. Burial was in Dutch Chapel Cemetery.
