A county officer responded Aug. 25 to a report of a stolen vehicle at a Swisher Road residence in Elk Creek that had burned down.

A man and woman who lived there told an investigating officer that the maroon 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo they had recently purchased was in the driveway when they had left for work early in the morning. The woman stated that she was advised later in the day that her house was on fire, and that when she returned the house was burned down and the car was gone.

The woman also stated that their dog was running loose, even though it had been penned up in the morning.
