The Houston High School softball team scored 11 times in the first inning en route to an easy 16-3 five-inning victory Thursday against Stoutland.

Maddie Vandiver had two of the Lady Tigers’ five hits and drove home a pair of runs. Vandiver and Belle Knar scored three times apiece. 

Taylor Franklin, Lizzy Swindell and Hailey Dodson all scored twice.

Kelley and Franklin shared the pitching duties. Kelley, who started and got the victory, handled the top of the lineup and Franklin the bottom.

The Lady Tigers took advantage of five errors in the first to take a commanding advantage. Five of the team’s first six batters reached via errors. Kelley capped the inning with a RBI single.

Kelley brought home a run with a sacrifice bunt in the third. Dodson and Vandiver had consecutive RBI singles in the four-run fourth inning.
