Shirley Jernigan, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at her granddaughter’s home in Houston.

She was born Jan. 4, 1934, in Colerain, N.C.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, planting flowers and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Clarence Jernigan; and a brother, Rudon Castellow.

Survivors include a daughter, Rose Daniel of Crewe, Va.; a son, Ricky Jernigan of Licking; six grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Melissa Thacker of Clintwood, Va.; 15 great-grandchildren; and four siblings.

Services were Tuesday, Aug. 16,. at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joshua Hartley officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery.
