A thief apparently trying to steal copper caused damage at a Roby residence, Texas County authorities said.

An officer reported that on Sept. 16 a 56-year-old man had called regarding property damage at a Paddy Chapel Road residence in Roby.

The man told the officer that someone had broken into a building that houses a propane tank next to a rental trailer sometime between 3:20 p.m. Sept. 15 and 10:15 a.m. Sept. 16 and tried to steal copper tubing. The man stated that the thieves were not able to steal the tubing, but caused about $100 damage to it. He also said the tank was 100-percent full before the incident, but was down to 73-percent, and estimated the cost of lost gas at $125.

The man knew of no suspects.
