Three players had double-digit digs to lead the Houston volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-15 victory Monday at Licking.
Lauren Hoover had a team-high 18 digs. Haylee Kell added 13 and Desiree Venable had 11.
“Defense is our main objective, and it showed,” Lady Tigers coach Skye Carrasquillo said. “Whether our hitting is there or not, our defense always should be.”
Venable led Houston with nine kills. Alexa Ichord handed out 12 assists and Amber Sillyman had nine.
On Saturday, the Lady Tigers won four of six sets in pool play at the Branson Tournament. They lost to eventual champion Carl Junction 25-20, 18-25, 25-20 in three sets in the opening round of tournament play.
“We were right there with everyone in the tournament,” Carrasquillo said.
Kell had 12 kills and Ichord added eight in the loss to Carl Junction. Sillyman had 10 assists.
In the opening match of pool play, Ichord had five kills and Sillyman had five assists in a 28-26, 25-11 win against El Dorado Springs.
JUNIOR VARSITY: The JV Lady Tigers fell to 1-3 with a 25-19, 25-14 loss Monday at Licking.
Houston beat Licking in the opener for its lone victory.
Megan Silveus had a team-high three kills. Mariah Clifton handed out three assists. Reanna Craig led the team with 11 digs.
