JUNIOR VARSITY: The Houston JV football team lost 40-0 Monday to Mountain Grove.
In the season opener, sophomore Austin Foster had a kick return for a touchdown in a 38-6 loss to Cabool.
The following week, Foster had a pair of kickoff returns for scores in the Tigers’ 42-18 loss to Willow Springs. Austin Keeney connected with Ty Wilkins for a 50-yard score to account for Houston’s other points.
TIGER TIDBITS: Freshman Ty Wilkins, who had team highs of five receptions and 81 yards against Ava, broke his collarbone in Monday’s JV game and will miss the remainder of the season. …Kaden Miller had a team-best 10 tackles against Ava. Team defensive stats were unavailable at press time.
EIGHTH GRADE: The Houston eighth grade football team tied Ava 0-0 last Thursday. Whitney Welch had an interception for the Tigers to stop an Ava drive. “We played well defensively,” Tigers coach Todd McKinney said. “Stetson Welch did a better job taking control of the offense, and Austin Schock had a good night running the ball.”
ABOUT ASH GROVE: The Pirates are 3-1 following Friday’s 33-21 loss to Marionville. Ash Grove opened the season with victories against Liberal (42-6), Stockton (35-20) and McAuley Catholic (48-6).
