A hot water heater and 44 tires were among the items retrieved from the Big Piney River during an annual cleanup Labor Day weekend.
The Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club, a paddling and conservation organization based in the Kansas City area, conducted the 52nd annual event. Fifty participants, who utilized Boiling Springs campground near Licking as their base camp, cleaned up trash from 18 miles of the river over three days.
Among the items removed from the river were 43 bags of aluminum cans, 34 bags of assorted trash and scraps of metal and plastic.
