The Houston softball team earned a pair of victories just in time for the district seeding meeting.
The Lady Tigers rallied past Mountain Grove 12-7 Tuesday and last Thursday topped Plato 12-2.
Coach Willy Walker was en route to the seeding meeting Wednesday morning. He was hopeful his team, which has never won a district game, would be seeded in the upper half of the field.
Trailing Mountain Grove 6-5, the Lady Tigers scored seven times in the final three innings to pull away.
Maddie Vandiver had a run-scoring single and Taylor Franklin added a RBI double in the four-run fifth inning.
Kaylea Preheim singled and scored in the sixth, and Kayla Kelley had a two-run homer in the seventh.
Franklin had three hits for Houston (8-6, 2-1 South Central Association). Vandiver had a pair of hits and scored twice.
Kelley was the winning pitcher.
On Thursday, the Lady Tigers scored multiple times in four different innings en route to an easy victory at Plato.
Freshman Olivia Woosley went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Vandiver, Kelley and Lizzy Swindell had two hits apiece.
Swindell had a two-run single in the top of the first to give the Lady Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
Vandiver singled in the third and scored on Woosley’s hit. Kelley brought home Woosley with a single and later scored to make it 5-0.
Woosley and Kelley each doubled in a four-run fifth inning.
Saturday’s tournament at Hollister was canceled due to inclement weather.
After this story was written, coach Willy Walker reported thatthe Lady Tigers received the No. 3 seed in districts. They willplay Seymour at 5 p.m. Oct. 5 in Hartville.
