Cecil “Skip” Guy Cavaness, 77, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011.
He was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Kansas City, son of Andrew B. and Ruth McGinty Cavaness.
He grew up in the Big Piney area and graduated from Waynesville High School.
He joined the Missouri National Guard and later the Navy Air Force. He served in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS ST PAUL. He was honorably discharged May 25, 1956, after serving four years.
Skip loved fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Charline, Neal, Kenneth M., Mary Foster, Ernest and Mac Cavaness.
Survivors include a son, Scotty Cavaness of Lexington, S.C.; a brother, Alan Cavaness of Warrensburg; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Memorial services with full military honors were Thursday, Oct. 6, in Fort Leonard Wood State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
